My name is Luciana and I'm a Brazilian expat living in Auckland, NZ. Being in this beautiful country has inspired me in many ways, specially about getting closer to nature and trying to reduce the amount of synthetic chemicals we use in our daily life.
I have always been a little obsessed about cosmetics in all its forms: skin care, hair products and makeup. I have even worked for a great international cosmetics brand back in Brazil for 3 years before I moved to NZ.
One day I came across an article that talked about all the nasty chemicals used in commercial shampoos and I decided to give a chance to this crazy idea called "no-poo", which stands for no-shampoo (if you haven't heard about it, I suggest you google it). Before, I used to use very expensive products from famous brands. After almost one year I had ditched shampoo and conditioner altogether, and washed my hair with baking soda and apple cider vinegar, my hair was amazing, best than ever before! It was a good feeling (not only the silky texture of my hair), but also the feeling of being more environmentally friendly, because the amount of toxic "poo" we put down the drain using regular shampoo is not funny :( It is eco-friendly because what goes down the drain is natural and biodegradable and also because it reduces the waste generated by all the plastic tubes and jars those products come in.
This experience arose a question: if going all natural has been so amazing for my hair, what would it do for my skin? So I started to read and experimenting with 100% natural ingredients. I started with oils: rosehip, sweet almond, jojoba... And they felt amazing! But they were good just to an extent, because they can "feed" your skin, but they cannot bring moist to it. And that's when I decided to whip my first cream using Aloe Vera and hydrosols. The result turned out quite... amazing! It encouraged me to try different ingredients and create my own formulas. The feedback I've received from friends and co-workers that kindly experimented the products was so positive and encouraging that I finally decided to create laVanda. And I strongly believe our products have a deep positive effect not only on the skin, but also in the body and on the environment.
I'm sorry if I was wordy, but I'm sure you know how it feels when you are passionate about something :) So putting it in a nutshell: laVanda is the result of my passion for cosmetics allied with my desire to live a chemical-free life. And the result is pure <3!
